La Carmela, the best Flamenco show in Madrid

Located in the old coal bunkers of the tavern “La Carmela” (old convent of the Victory).

Demolished in 1836 after the War of Independence.

Mystical place full of history, where Castiza gastronomy joints flamenco artists of the first level, under the direction of the master Juan Andrés Maya and Raquel Martos.

This artist, a native of Sacromonte, is one of Granada’s leading exponents of flamenco dance. Born in 1972 into a very important gypsy family, the Maya family, he began dancing in his parents’ tablao, La Cueva de la Rocío, from the age of three. Having flamenco art in his blood (nephew of ….), he found a way of expression at a very young age in flamenco dance, which led him to perform in Cairo with the company of Cachado at the age of fourteen, and he has been active ever since.

After touring around Spain in various shows, at the age of 18 he premiered his first choreography, “Pasión”, which received good reviews and led him to perform all over the peninsula. In 1992 he collaborated with Miguel Bosé at the Universal Exhibition in Seville with the show “Jóvenes valores del siglo XXI”, which was an acclaimed success. In the same year he presented his work “Contraste”, which took him to many theatres throughout Spain.

He has played the leading role in “Amor Brujo”, has performed with Antonio Canales in the show “Guernika”, has performed for Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain on several occasions, has shared the bill at the Alhambra Theatre with Manolete and La Hierbabuena in their play “Cautivo” and has worked in New York in a tribute to García Lorca. His travels have taken him around the world, presenting “Gitanos de Sacromonte” in 1998 in Tokyo, with Curro Albaycín’s group in France and on numerous occasions in Holland, among others.

An artist who breaks with the frontiers of flamenco dance and from a very young age he delves into choreography and direction, expanding his knowledge in creative matters and materialising it in productions of shows full of details.

In the Tablao Flamenco La Carmela we have the best flamenco dancers, who in each show give themselves to the audience with body and soul.

An experience that you will never forget.
