Toledo had a Roman wall that had to be rebuilt by the Visigoth king Wamba in 674. The current wall is of Arab origin, where we can find some Roman remains. King Alfonso VI ordered the completion of the wall in 1085, after the reconquest of the city. Toledo has always had a great wall, well known throughout its history, taking centre stage its entrance and exit doors, such as Puerta de Bisagra, Puerta de Alfonso VI or Puerta del Cambrón.

The Alcázar de Toledo is a stone fortress located in the highest part of Toledo, Spain. Once used as a Roman palace in the 3rd century, it was restored under Charles I and his son Felipe II of Spain in the 1540s.

The Synagogue of Santa María la Blanca is a museum and former synagogue in Toledo, Spain. Built in 1180, it is arguably the oldest synagogue building still standing in Europe, according to an inscription on a beam. It is now owned and maintained by the Catholic Church.

The Iglesia de Santo Tomé is a church located in the historic centre of the city of Toledo, founded after the reconquest of the city by King Alfonso VI of Leon. It appears to have been built in the 12th century, on the site of an old mosque dating from the 11th century.

Frequently Asked Questions

All departures are from our office at Calle Coloreros, 2 - just off Calle Mayor 20, Madrid.

It's one single day: your coach leaves Madrid at 9:00 am for a panoramic tour and 1.5-hour guided walk through Toledo, and you're back in the city with time to freshen up before heading to Teatro Lope de Vega for the Lion King performance. No need to book anything separately — both experiences are on one ticket.

The Toledo excursion runs at a relaxed pace with a seated coach ride and one guided walk, not a marathon of stops, so most guests arrive at the theatre pleasantly tired rather than exhausted. If you'd rather have a slower day, we're happy to suggest the earlier Friday or Saturday 18:00 show so you have more breathing room beforehand.

Yes — the Toledo day is built around your show time, and on evenings with the 20:00 or 20:30 performance there's a comfortable margin to get back to central Madrid, drop your bags and walk to Teatro Lope de Vega. If you've booked a Friday or Saturday and prefer the earlier 18:00 show, just flag it when you book so we can confirm the timing works for you.

The show is performed in Spanish at Teatro Lope de Vega, as is standard for all major musicals in Madrid. That said, Lion King is one of the most visual and musical shows on stage — sweeping choreography, puppetry and the songs you already know — so most English-speaking guests follow the story without trouble even without fluent Spanish.

You collect your Lion King tickets at the Teatro Lope de Vega box office about one hour before the performance starts. Your guide will confirm the exact pickup point and remind you of your show time before you leave Toledo, so there's nothing to figure out on your own.

Included: your Lion King theatre ticket, the panoramic Toledo tour with a 1.5-hour guided walk, transport in an air-conditioned coach with wifi, your guide for both the bus and the walk, and Toledo's city tourist tax. Not included: entrance fees to monuments inside Toledo (such as the Cathedral or Alcázar) and meals — we're glad to point you to good lunch spots along the way.

You'll check in at our office at Calle Coloreros, 2 - just off Calle Mayor 20, Madrid at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am departure. After the musical you're free to head back to your hotel on your own — there's no return coach laid on for after the show, since performance end times vary by day.

Your whole booking, Toledo excursion and Lion King ticket together, is fully refundable up to the day of the tour, so there's no separate cancellation risk on the show. Just reserve at least one day in advance and you're covered.
