Book the guided tour of the interior of the Cathedral Mosque of Cordoba with entrance fee and visit with us this monument for 1 hour and 15min.

Also known as the Mezquita-Catedral, this structure originated as a mosque in the late 8th century on the grounds of the Hispano-Roman basilica of San Vicente Mártir. Over the years, the mosque underwent up to three expansions, ultimately becoming the second-largest mosque until the construction of the Blue Mosque in the 16th century.

Following the Christian conquest in the 13th century, the mosque was consecrated as a cathedral. However, it wasn’t until the 16th century that the cruciform basilica, now situated at the center of the building, was erected. Today, this historic site stands as one of Spain’s most visited monuments, attracting over 2 million visitors.

Mezquita-Catedral

We will meet at the Puerta del Perdón in front of the store “Sabor a España”. You should be there 10 minutes before the tour starts. You will find us looking for the orange umbrellas.

Our tour will start at the well-known Patio de los Naranjos, which is considered the oldest in Córdoba, as its creation would be related to the construction of an earlier building from the late Roman period that was located in the same place. The courtyard was used by the Muslims for different functions, such as holding trials, giving classes and praying in an open room outside. When the Christians arrived in the city they used it as a place of asylum for the most needy.

You will continue the visit inside the Mosque where you will be transported back to the city’s Muslim past. You will be able to marvel at the light in the interior, the great artistic wealth and the harmonious blend created by the architecture.

Some of the most characteristic things you will discover on this route is the second row of columns that you will find here, which is unique. Another curious fact about the Mosque of Cordoba is that the Mihrab is not located in the direction of Mecca, the holy place for Muslims. You will have to find out why on our tour.

You will walk around and learn with us about the three extensions that took place in the mosque, as well as the architectural and religious modifications that occurred with the arrival of the Christians.
